Microsoft, CompTIA Also Part of Joint Task Force

Last week, I blogged about Cisco's role in a White House sponsored Task Force that aims to help returning military personnel with appropriate Military Occupation Specialties (MOS) get into meaningful civilian employment. In particular, Cisco seeks to identify various specialty codes (all the major branches of the military have them) that would be appropriate for its entry-level CCNA Routing and Switching. And, as I had already guessed, both CompTIA and Microsoft are also in on this initiative, known as the IT Training and Certification Partnership.

Don't Forget About IT Cert Success

In the past couple of months, I've started blogging for a couple of training companies -- Upper Training and TrainSignal, to be specific -- and have been writing the occasional guest blog for Anne Martinez at GoCertify.com as well. Add to that my weekly blogs here, and three times a week on cert topics for IT Career JumpStart over at TechTarget, and that's a whole lotta blogging. In general, when shopping for cert prep materials, it's a good idea to shop around for such deals as may be available. One good way to save money on such stuff, in fact, is to look for bundles related to specific certification credentials, particularly for certs that require candidates to take and pass more than one exam to earn them.

My friend Anne Martinez runs a great website called GoCertify.com, which reports on certification-related news and events, provides a monthly newsletter that tracks the certification industry, and is home to the best, most complete, and up-to-date database of IT certifications that I know of. During the week of September 25, 2012, she posted a very interesting interview with Bill Ferguson, a long-time VMware instructor and the author of the recently published (August 2012) Pearson/VMware Press book: The Official VCP5 Certification Guide. It’s definitely worth a visit, and a read, particularly for those considering a run at the popular and highly regarded VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5 exam.
