Exam Profile: CCIE Security v3.0 Lab Exam
The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification is recognized industry-wide as a collection of expert level technical exams that maintain a high level of integrity, relevance and difficulty level. CCIE candidates can be assured that passing the exam puts them in select company in terms of subject matter competency and career path success. A number of tracks may be pursued, including Route/Switch, Voice, Security, Wireless, Storage Networking and Service Provider. Each track comprises a written exam and an intense hands-on lab exam. Attaining a CCIE certification requires a significant investment in time, effort and money so it is imperative that candidates are well prepared. This preparation includes understanding what comprises an exam in terms of logistics and technical content so the candidate may formulate a clear, effective study plan.
The CCIE Security Lab requires the candidate to use their configuration and technology knowledge plus troubleshooting skills in a predetermined network topology that comprises security appliances and security capable devices like routers and switches. There are several revisions of the exam that vary in content, but all content is based on the current version of the CCIE Security Lab Exam Blueprint v3.0 available to registered users.

- Type(s) of questions: The security track has more recently been a combination of the lab exam tasks and a series of Open Ended Questions (OEQs). The exam is now moving to hands-on lab tasks only with an increase in the troubleshooting component. This puts the security exam in line with several of the other CCIE tracks in terms of a configuration/troubleshooting balance.*

Each question is labeled with the number of points it is worth. The candidate must complete the entire question and the tasks outlined correctly, no partial points are awarded. The total number of points on an exam is 100.
