The Cisco 640-553 IINS exam serves as the CCNA Security exam. The IINS exam takes a deep look at security topics, including security policies, securing router access, securing user traffic, cryptography and VPN, intrusion prevention technologies, Layer 2 security and a few other topics.

Cisco uses the IINS exam as the requirement for become CCNA Security. To be granted the CCNA Security designation upon successful completion of the IINS exam, candidates must also hold a valid CCNA certification. CCNA Security is the spring board to the CCNP Security designation, formerly known as CCSP.
