New CCNP Exam Prep Materials On Their Way

A new crop of CCNP exams is available, and the old crop is on its way out. Although Pearson doesn't yet have finished books available for the latest collection of such exams, they're on their way to print by the end of 2014. But all of them already offer so-called "Rough Cuts" -- online versions immediately accessible for those early adopters (such as developers, instructors, Cisco partners, or others who typically jump on the cert bandwagon sooner rather than later) who need them before print editions come off the presses in late November, 2014.

CCNP exams will soon go through their regular refresh cycle, and prep materials ditto.

The old exams will retire on January 29, 2015, to be supplanted by their new-crop replacements, as follows:

Old/New CCNP exams (642 versions retire on 1/29/2015)
Old Exam ID (Label) Old Exam Title (Abbrev) New Exam ID (Label) New Exam Title (Abbrev)
642-902 ROUTE Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE v1.0) 300-101 ROUTE Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE v2.0)
642-813 SWITCH Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH v1.0) 300-115 SWITCH Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH v.20)
642-832 TSHOOT Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco Networks (TSHOOT v1.0) 300-135 TSHOOT Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco Networks (TSHOOT v2.0)

As of this week (around August 25, 2014), each of the new exams now has its own product page on the Pearson IT Certification website, as follows (all share the same publication date of 11/26/2014 as well):

If you're interested in the CCNP, and have already started studying for the older 642 exams, you MUST finish up no later than the end of January next year (1/29/2015). If you're thinking about the CCNP, or just getting underway, you'll be best served by tackling the new crop of 300 prefixed exams listed above on the right-hand side of the table. Be sure to check out their product pages, where you'll find links to Rough Cuts now available for all three titles. If the new-version CCNP exams are in your immediate future, you'll want to check them out at your earliest convenience!
