Every now and then, a vendor certification program comes up with a visual aid that helps to explain its offerings and bats one out of the park. Hats off to MS Learning, which just posted a terrific infographic entitled "Windows Server Certification & Career Paths" to its Born to Learn blog.
You can check out the blog post or go straight to the full-size, multi-screen infographic. The blog post's title "A Visual Guide to Windows Server Training and Certification" tells readers what they'll be looking at, and as such, it does a pretty darn good job.
What's nice about the graphic is that anything that can reasonably act as a link actually does. Thus, for example, if you click text that reads "Download the Free E-book: Introducing Windows Server 2012" you'll find yourself on the Microsoft Press Web page where that book's download link resides. Click on a certification name, and you're on the MS Learning home page for same, and so on. It's a nice way to organize and access information, and I'd like to see more cert sponsors approach things this way.
At the same time, you'll also notice that MS Learning has redesigned its cert pages, as shown in the following screen shot of a snippet from the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 home page. The style is much less busy, and much more spare and clean. Links to training and exam information come straight from active graphical elements built using HTML5, for vastly simplified navigation and access (much like the infographic that prompted this blog post).
HTML5 lends itself to quick, easy graphical navigation.
There is even an expandable text item labeled "Upgradeable certifications" that shows for which of the MCSA and MCITP credentials the single exam upgrade path based on exam 70-417 is available.
Good stuff! Check it out!!
