For those of you who couldn’t attend Microsoft TechEd North America 2014 (held May 12 - 15) in Houston, TX, you can still reap some of its benefits. Of particular interest to those likely to read this blog, Microsoft is making numerous TechEd exam prep sessions available, free of charge, through its Channel 9 website. Certs covered include MCSA and MCSE, in various forms and flavors.

MS's Channel 9 Covered LOTS of Stuff at TechEd--including 16 exam prep sessions

Each session is led by a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and aims at a single, specific Microsoft certification exam (and the equivalent exam update, if applicable). Here's a complete of the exam prep sessions from TechEd, all of which are available online:
  • 70-410 and 70-417 - MCSA: Windows Server 2012
  • 70-411 and 70-417 - MCSA: Windows Server 2012
  • 70-412 and 70-417 - MCSA: Windows Server 201

  • 70-246 and 70-247 - MCSE: Private Cloud
  • 70-461 - MCSA: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (Querying)
  • 70-462 - MCSA: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (Administering)

In case you don't feel like counting, that's a total of 16 prep sessions in all, covering most of the exams related to MCSA and MCSE known to humankind and Microsoft. Lots of good stuff there, too.

A typical session is fast-paced -- lasting just over an hour -- and is designed to help prepare you for the exam. Because an exam’s topics can’t be covered 100% in the allotted time period, please consider these sessions to be supplemental to other exam preparation measures you should also acquire and work through. They can also serve as excellent pre-test drills. Even so, the sessions do a great job of covering exam question formats, development news, exam objectives and key exam topics, in addition to providing general information on how to interpret exam questions and lots of other test-taking tips. Many sessions include sample exam questions, which the trainer gives you time to think about and then discusses, in detail, the correct answer(s) and distractors. This process of dissecting exam questions is exceedingly helpful for anyone who will be taking a Microsoft exam, whether it’s your first test or tenth.

You can view sessions on a PC, Xbox, Media Center PC, Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad or Android device. You can also download the MP3 for audio only or view a slide deck online.
