Multicast Protocol

Description

IGMP

Internet Group Management Protocol. Used by IP hosts to report their multicast group memberships to routers.

CGMP

Cisco Group Management Protocol. Used to control multicast traffic at Layer 2.

IGMP snooping

Another method used to control multicast traffic at Layer 2.

PIM

Protocol Independent Multicast. IP multicast routing protocol.

DVMRP

Distance-Vector Multicast Routing Protocol. Primary multicast routing protocol used in the MBONE.
